ShieldSeal Waterproofing
A concept website built from scratch to demonstrate what a technically credible, conversion-focused waterproofing company website looks like. Research-led competitor analysis, custom logo, and a design system entirely derived from the brand mark.
The SA waterproofing market is dominated by generic contractor websites: basic WordPress templates, photo sliders, vague service lists, and no differentiation between one contractor and the next. Most waterproofing companies rely entirely on referrals because their websites do not generate any trust or leads independently. The brief was to build a concept site that would stand completely apart from every competitor in the market, position a waterproofing company as a technical specialist rather than a generic contractor, and demonstrate what this industry could look like with proper design investment.
We designed and built a complete concept website for ShieldSeal Waterproofing on Next.js. The site opens with a full-height hero using a real torch-on membrane application photo, a gradient overlay that darkens toward the bottom to keep all text readable regardless of image content, and a bordered NHBRC credential badge above the main headline. A continuous CSS ticker immediately below the hero displays all key trust statistics scrolling left. The services section uses a specification table with system codes rather than generic service cards. The interactive quote calculator lets visitors select a surface type from a rate reference table and enter their area to get an instant price range, a feature no SA competitor offers. A completed projects section uses water beads on waterproofing membrane as a subtle parallax background with a light overlay that blends with the surrounding white sections. The process section features a custom specification card using the ShieldSeal logo mark alongside 5 numbered process steps. A redesigned contact section has a teal header strip with three key stats and a clean white form below, eliminating the dark-on-dark contrast issues common in trade company contact sections.
- Audited all major SA waterproofing competitors (Apex, Sicon, Berry King, SA Waterproofing) to map exactly what the market standard looks like and where the design gap is
- Designed the full visual identity from a ChatGPT-generated logo: extracted exact brand colours (#00AAC2 teal, #090A0A near-black), matched the display font (Exo 2) to the logo letterform proportions using pixel-level ratio analysis
- Built a technical service specification layout with system codes (WP·01 through RC·06) to position the company as a specification-led specialist, not a generic trades contractor
- Designed and built an interactive quote calculator unique in the SA waterproofing space, allowing visitors to estimate costs by surface type and area without a phone call
- Sourced real waterproofing photography (torch-on membrane application, completed waterproofed surfaces) to replace the generic construction stock imagery used by competitors
- Implemented a continuously scrolling statistics ticker combining all key trust signals into one elegant full-width element immediately below the hero
- Built CSS parallax on the hero and completed projects sections for visual depth without JavaScript
- Structured the full site for SEO and GEO with LocalBusiness schema, FAQPage schema, and sitemap covering all Gauteng service areas
- Visually distinct from every SA waterproofing competitor reviewed during research
- Custom brand system derived directly from the logo: exact teal extracted at pixel level, display font matched by letterform ratio analysis
- Interactive quote calculator: first of its kind in the SA waterproofing market
- Six services documented with technical system codes matching how procurement is actually done
- Real waterproofing photography throughout: torch-on membrane application and completed surfaces
- Fully responsive across mobile, tablet, and desktop with separate mobile layouts for complex sections
- LocalBusiness schema, FAQPage schema, 10 Gauteng service areas in footer for local SEO
- All text passes WCAG AA contrast ratio on every section and background combination
The concept demonstrates that a waterproofing company does not have to look like a generic contractor. With a proper brand system, a technical service layout, a functional quote tool, and real industry photography, a site in this market can build the kind of trust that generates enquiries before the first phone call. The ShieldSeal build is used by CodeLab One to show waterproofing businesses, building contractors, and property companies what a premium digital presence looks like for their industry.
